One of the reasons that French sauces are so popular is their ability to enhance and elevate the flavors of dishes. A simple piece of grilled fish or meat can be transformed into a gourmet meal with the addition of a well-made sauce. Sauces can are also used to add moisture and texture to dishes, and to create a balance between different flavors.

So good that French won't allow any waste!

Did you know that French people have a very unique way of enjoying their delicious sauces? It is something you probably noticed already: They enjoy every last bit of it by using a small baguette or piece of bread (yes, another excuse to eat baguette) to clean their plates, dipping it into the remaining sauce on the plate. Once the meal is finished, their plates are left literally spotless and are even easier to wash!



Great variety of recipes and endless combinations

One typical French sauce is the vinaigrette sauce, a simple sauce made with vinegar, olive oil, mustard, and salt. It always works well with all kinds of salads, including rocket and other leafy greens, boiled potatoes, and more.
Another iconic French sauce is the Bechamel, based on a recipe including milk, flour, and butter which can be used in a great variety of dishes  including croque-monsieur, potato gratin, lasagna, and many more. Although very simple and easy to cook, this sauce always delivers an authentic French home-style taste.



With a great variety of sauce recipes, with names you probably already heard like the béarnaise, hollandaise, romesco, aïoli sauce and so on, the world of French sauces is vast and exciting and diserves to be explored deeply: Learning to make French sauces would be a great way to elevate your cooking skills and impress your friends and family.
